The Defra Approved Wren is one of AGA's best-selling wood burning and multi fuel stoves and it's very easy to see why. The pleasing compact proportions, exceptional precision cast iron construction and subtle mix of traditional and contemporary design detail are all obvious at first glance but additionally the Wren also offers you great performance with a very effective airwash system to help keep the glass clean and a stove that's very easy control so that you can make precise adjustments to the burn rate for ideal comfort and maximum fuel economy. When you think about it, why would Aga put their considerable name to anything less than a brilliant product?
At almost 105kg of cast iron – that's nearly 16.5 stone (basically the same weight as your average big bloke), the Wren stove is designed to be great at storing heat and then slowly releasing it in the small hours to take the chill off your living space (and probably the room above) until the early morning. Something your average steel bodied stove, at about two thirds of the Wren's weight, won't do quite so well. With a nominal heat output just short of 5kW you won't need to install a dedicated air vent in a pre-2008 house either (subject to building regulations) so that draughts are also kept to a minimum. The externally riddled fire grate and two separate controls for Primary Air (for burning mineral fuels) and Secondary Air (for burning wood) ensures you get effective combustion whatever your fuel choice.
For ease of installation you can top or rear flue the Wren as well as place it on a 12mm hearth (subject to Building Regulations). Its small size also makes it the perfect choice for all but the narrowest chimney breast openings, while its generous heat will easily keep a medium sized living space warm and cosy. You also get Aga's high construction standards and strict quality control, along with their five year parts (excluding consumables like firebricks) and 1 year labour warranty for real peace of mind.
