Where Southampton FC leads others follow. In this case it's the Super Bowl, USA's biggest sport fest and this Sunday watched by a record-breaking 114 million viewers. This year the 72,000 seater University of Phoenix Stadium played host to the Super Bowl and to add a little bit of extra sparkle (and to save some money too) they updated their old metal halide light bulbs (all 780 of them) and replaced them with 312 energy-efficient LED lights in order to use around 80% less energy. Southampton FC installed a complete LED floodlight system at their St Mary's stadium last season, making it the first LED-lit stadium in Europe. So come on United (substitute the team of your choice here) – what's keeping you?
