The ESSE 550 has long legs, a simple door and a large glass window. Its tall, narrow shape puts the fire in view without a wide stove front. At 600mm high and 372mm wide, it looks quite different from the shorter 500 and the pillared 525.

What you will notice
Tall and narrow
The 550 is 70mm taller and 58mm narrower than the standard 500. That changes the look of the fire in the opening while keeping the same nominal heat output.
A clear view of the flames
A large glass window and unfussy door keep the fire in view. Compare it with the traditional arched-door 500 if you are deciding between the two styles.
Straightforward air controls
Primary and secondary air controls regulate the burn. The 550 also has a rear convector plate; use its manual for operation and installation clearances.
Inside the ESSE 550
The 550 has a nominal 5kW output, 82.9% efficiency and separate primary and secondary air controls. Its 305mm body depth is the shallowest of the 500, 525 and 550, making it worth a look for a narrow fireplace.
Compare with other ESSE stoves
The 500 has a shorter, traditional arched front. The 525 has pillars and a square fire view; the 550 is 58mm taller, 68mm narrower and 75mm shallower than it. All three have a nominal 5kW output and 82.9% efficiency. We can help you work out which shape fits your room and fireplace.

Your installer will allow for the hearth and clearances around the narrow body. The space under the legs is not specified as storage. Use the 550 drawing and its sections of the shared manual, including the clearances that apply with the rear convector plate.
