The ESSE 1 is a small, hand-built wood burner with traditional looks and a nominal 5kW output. At 510mm high, 380mm wide and 322mm deep, it is a compact option for a smaller fireplace. A simple handle and straightforward controls keep everyday use uncomplicated.

What you will notice
A compact stove
The ESSE 1 is 50mm narrower, 20mm shorter and 28mm shallower than the standard ESSE 500. That gives you a useful alternative when space in the fireplace is limited.
Choose your fuel setup
The standard stove burns wood without a riddling grate. A multifuel kit is available separately. Tell us which fuel you plan to use and we will include the right setup in your quote.
Top or rear flue
The flue can connect at the top or rear. Your installer can use the ESSE 1 drawing below to check which route works with your hearth and chimney.
Inside the ESSE 1
The standard wood-burning model has no riddling grate. If you want to burn other permitted fuels, ask us about the optional multifuel kit. The ESSE 1 has 82% efficiency, an A+ energy rating and a choice of top or rear flue connection.
Compare with other ESSE stoves
If you like a traditional stove, compare the ESSE 1 with the arched-door 500. Both have a nominal 5kW output, but the 500 is larger and has an optional log store. The ESSE 1 is also much narrower than the 606mm-wide 105. We can help you choose a size that suits both the room and the fireplace.
Planning your installation
Your installer will check the hearth, ventilation, flue and clearances around the stove. If you choose the multifuel kit, we will include it in your quote and explain the permitted fuels and controls at handover.
