New XL EGGs are changing to the Dual Zone Essentials Kit at the same cooker RRP. It includes a basket, two half-moon ceramic deflectors and two half-moon stainless steel grids, replacing the included ConvEGGtor. Give a larger gathering more room on the grill. The XL Big Green Egg is a ceramic charcoal cooker for entertaining, with a ConvEGGtor included to extend your menu beyond direct grilling.
The XL is worth considering when you regularly cook for more than six people or want room to organise a larger meal outdoors. Capacity is about the menu as well as the guest list: pans, roasting joints and individual portions each occupy the cooker differently.
Before choosing, picture a typical meal from start to finish. Consider which dishes need the same temperature and which can be prepared ahead. Extra space is useful, but it does not remove the need to plan the cooking sequence. Compare the Large if most of your meals are for a smaller household.
Cook directly above the charcoal for grilling, or use the included ConvEGGtor to create an indirect arrangement for roasting and longer cooks. With suitable accessories, you can develop the setup around baking, smoking and pan cooking too.
For pizza or bread, a separate XL-compatible baking stone provides the cooking surface. The ConvEGGtor controls the heat arrangement underneath; it is not a substitute for every baking accessory. Follow the manufacturer’s setup for the recipe and check that each component is intended for the XL.
Airflow controls the charcoal fire, while the ceramic body retains heat. Give the complete arrangement time to settle before cooking, especially when adding accessories that need to heat through. There is no single warm-up time that suits every fuel load, temperature or cooking setup.
Use the dome thermometer to monitor the cooking environment and an appropriate food thermometer to check ingredients internally. Build familiarity with the settings over several cooks rather than expecting every dish to use the same temperature or timing.

The XL needs a suitable support arrangement and a practical place in your outdoor cooking area. Think about access for positioning it, space to prepare food and where utensils will go during a cook. Follow the manufacturer’s installation guidance for the complete configuration.

You do not have to buy every accessory at once. Starting with a clear idea of your regular menu gives you a useful basis for adding equipment later. It also makes it easier to compare a bundle with individual items and avoid duplicating what you already own.
Follow the supplied care instructions for the EGG and each accessory. Ceramic components, cast iron surfaces and electrical accessories require different treatment. Check the condition of wearing parts as part of routine care, and identify your EGG size before ordering replacements.
