The British-made Esse 1 is a great little entry level stove with a price, build quality and features that make it tough for the Chinese to compete. This is a wood burning stove with a 160 year provenance made by one of the oldest stove makers in the world, so availability of spares when you need them are never going to be an issue either. Rest assured that this is a stove that packs a punch that's much bigger than its modest price and with an efficiency of 81.9% it will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings, especially if you're intending to replace an open fire.
A good looking, hand built and neutral modern styled premium quality steel body with cast iron door are just the start. Inside is a highly efficient ultra clean burning firebox that is not only Ecodesign compliant, as you'd expect, but is also Defra Smoke Exempt so that you can legally burn wood with the minimum of emissions in a UK smoke control area (most UK urban areas). This is aided by the preheated tertiary air while the powerful secondary airwash system helps keep the glass clean. Two separate primary and secondary air controls provide precise fuel management and your ideal comfort level setting.
The generous 5.0kW heat output will allow you to safely install the Esse 1 in most pre-2008 homes without the need for a regulation air vent' and along with its compact proportions it will make the ideal choice for most fireplace openings in small to medium sized rooms. It can also be installed with a top or rear flue with a handy space-saving rear flue box option and there's a useful flue pressure test point, which will come in handy during commissioning to ensure that your flue meets the minimum flue draught recommended for operational efficiency and safety. There's also four adjustable feet as standard for uneven stone hearths or for an extra 225 mm height there's an optional log store available.
A multi fuel kit option is also available should you want to burn approved smokeless coal (efficiency 82.1%).
