Aga Hanwood Wood Burning Stove

The Aga Hanwood is a contemporary wood burning stove designed to create a big impression with its considerable physical presence and its substantial nominal 9kW heat output, however it therefore needs a sizeable modern open-plan living space to do it full justice. Visually, it also benefits from being free standing where its clean simple lines and stylish widescreen fire chamber can be seen at their best. The Hanwood really does represent excellent value too when compared to other large contemporary stoves, especially when you consider that the Hanwood is also a Defra smoke exempt appliance and carries the 79-year old Aga quality mark.

With a high output stove you need to be sure that you have total control over it, not only for your comfort, but also so that you don't waste heat and expensive fuel. Fortunately controllability is something the Hanwood excels at with its single control designed to blend both primary and secondary air to create the ideal combustion conditions for wood to deliver an excellent efficiency of just short of 80%. With a very big window you also need to know that your new stove is more than capable of keeping the glass clean and again Aga's Active Airwash system will easily handle the full width – provided your wood is ready to burn.

The Hanwood's considered simple uncluttered looks mean that you can really focus on the great big view of the fire through the minimal cast iron door frame and stylish black edged glass. Even the stylish door handle and single air control are both fairly discreet. The panoramic fire box is supported on two extended slim side panels to create a useful storage space of approximately 330mm x 686mm wide (13" x 27") which could be used to keep a few feature logs without spoiling the lightness of the overall design. One final advantage of the Hanwood is that it has Direct External Air (DEAS) capability which means that you can avoid adding in a large air vent in the wall with its associated unwanted draughts (subject to Building Regulations).
