Thousands of Romanians have recently taken to the streets to demand that their government takes immediate action against the unlawful sale of forested areas and the large-scale illegal logging which subsequently follows. In the last two decades Romania's forests have been reduced to just 26% of the country's total land area – scientists say the safe minimum should be 36%.
