14.10.20 New Welsh nuclear power plant hits buffers
Good news if anything nuclear gives you the heebie-jeebies. Work was actually stopped on the Anglesey project in January 2019 because of escalating costs. At that point the UK government said it was not prepared to provide Hitachi with the additional funding and now, after some 20 months, Hitachi has now confirmed it is withdrawing from the project. They say that this is because the investment environment has changed dramatically due to Covid 19. Hitachi has also said it will scrap its other nuclear project in Gloucestershire. Campaigners against the project have welcomed the development claiming that the nuclear power station would have endangered lives on Anglesey and beyond.
