11.09.14 Ice loss doubles

Data from Europe's CryoSat spacecraft, which has taken some 14 million individual height measurements over Greenland, shows that Greenland is now discharging about 375 cubic kilometres of ice each year into the sea. When this is added to the ice melt coming from Antarctica, it means that some 500 cubic kilometres of ice water is being added to the oceans annually which is inevitably increasing concerns about future global sea-level rise.
