An air purifying tree, London's first, has been beamed down by the Crown Estate to Soho's Glasshouse Street and is set to do the filtration work of some 275 trees whilst taking up just 1% of the space. It's on test to see if it will actually do what it says on the can and remove up to 30% of the particulate matter, mainly from diesel engines, from the local air. Basically it's a self sustaining two-storey mossy double-sided wall with a built-in watering system. Other cities including Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Oslo already have air purifying trees in place and Newcastle has had theirs since 2017.
