Not everybody was happy but the general consensus is that the climate talks in Lima, Peru are a serious step forward towards an agreement in Paris next year. However, environmental groups are concerned that governments are still only scratching at the surface of the global warming threat. The main points agreed were:

• All countries must reach an ambitious agreement in 2015 which reflects different national circumstances

• Developed countries were urged to provide financial support to developing countries and to help the most vulnerable countries to adapt

• Donations to help with the transition to a low-carbon economy exceeded the UN's $10 billion target for 2014

• Countries to present their national contributions by March 2015
