15.10.14 New EU Climate & Energy Commissioner appointed

And guess what? He's a former 'oil baron' and 'yes' environmentalists are hopping mad that he's been given the top 'clean energy' job. The new commissioner, Miguel Arias Cañete, was approved by a wide margin but concerns about his suitability remain because of his former position as chairman of two oil companies, and his poor track record as Spain's environment minister. He recently resigned his oil company chairmanships so that his brother-in-law could take his place, so many believe he continues to have real conflicts of interest. Friends of the Earth said that people will be watching him very closely and he will have to prove that he is acting independently, and working for the benefit of the climate, not polluters.
