Denton Texas, the most heavily fracked town in the US, has made history by voting to ban fracking inside its city limits. This is the town where America’s oil and natural gas boom began, but the noise and disruption of fracking, and the constant traffic and fumes from wells and trucks operating in residential neighbourhoods has finally got to its residents. Denton has seen wells drilled on church property, school grounds and on the campus of the University of North Texas, right next to the tennis courts and across the road from the sports stadium. 15 million Americans now live within just one mile of an oil or gas well and towns in Ohio and California have also recently voted to ban fracking.
