...the next time you clean your teeth or feed the cat. Nestlé, Kraft Foods and Mondelez are working with scientists at the University of Cambridge on a project to turn old toothpaste tubes into fuel and aluminium – and it will only take three minutes. In just one year in the UK ,16,000 tons of plastic-aluminium laminate, in the form of toothpaste tubes and pet food packaging, ends up in landfill. The three companies are part-funding a new commercial-scale recycling plant which separates the old packaging into clean aluminium flakes, hydrocarbon gases and oil which will eventually end up in new products and clean fuel.
