A new privately owned solar farm which was completed last week, under the scrapped Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme, may well be the very last utility-scale solar park to be built in the UK according to its owners. The new solar farm in Hampshire, apparently one of the sunniest spots in the country, will be able to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 15,000 homes and at the same time save over 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. The end of the RO scheme, the subsidy system for renewable energy projects, has caused uncertainty over the solar industry's future and also comes at the same time as newly published data from Nasa showed an unprecedented spike in global temperatures in February.
