The National Trust's 18th Century Quarry Bank Mill, about 20 minutes drive from The Stove Yard's Cheshire showroom, is reintroducing water power, some 200 years after the cotton mill's huge water wheel first harnessed the power of the river Bollin to turn its looms. The new hydro-electric turbine is expected to generate 55% of the site's energy requirements and is part of the Trust's ambitious plans to use renewable sources to generate half of its total energy by 2020. Quarry Bank is open every day from 10.30 am until 5.00pm and has a great cafe with lots of renewable cakes.
