The level of consents for onshore wind farms in England is almost a third of the level consented in the previous year and the lowest level for four years. A wind industry report says that this is mainly due to the unprecedented action from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, who has refused 86% of the 47 projects where decisions have so far been made. The report concludes that political instability and unwanted intervention may damage the onshore wind power industry's future growth.
