11.08.14 Renewables generate fifth of UK's electricity.

Nearly 20% of all of Britain's electricity in the first three months of 2014 was generated by wind farms and other renewable technologies according to Government statistics – up by 48% on the same period last year. Wind power alone provided an incredible 12% of the overall power produced – that's enough electricity to power some 9 million homes during the same period. The Renewable Energy Association (REA) said that every percentage point increase in homegrown renewable energy makes us that much more energy secure, whilst at the same time pointing out that the UK still lags behind most other EU countries in terms of green energy production.
