Morso 2840 Wood Burning Stove
Morsø 2840 4.5kW Wood Burning Stove
The 2840 is a new Defra approved variant of Morsø's global best-selling Squirrel, so it certainly has a lot to live up to. Its striking appearance proudly boasts detailed generous premium cast iron construction (all 100kg of it) with a strong visual nod to its iconic forebears. But what makes the 2840 really different from the previous Squirrel incarnations is its soft radiused triangular footprint making it at an ideal choice for corner locations and since it's also a convector stove (another important difference) the safe distance to combustible materials that are required are greatly reduced (only 350mm from the sides) so that it will work equally well whether in a fireplace or free-standing setting.
The Morsø 2840 is 2022 SIA Ecodesign Ready which means that it is exceptionally clean burning and will minimise the amount of emissions it produces – provided the wood logs you burn have a moisture content of less than 20% (look for the Ready to Burn label). It is 81% efficient and has an ErP energy rating of A+ which is as good as it gets for a wood burning stove. This is all helped by the 2840's pre-heated secondary and tertiary air and the dense insulating vermiculite panels surrounding the fire chamber. There's a large airwashed window and just one user friendly control to moderate the exceptional heat output. As with all Morsø stoves there's a well considered functional handle to make it very easy to access the fire chamber which will easily accept logs of up to 300mm long and it has a magnetic door-closing mechanism which ensures a safe snap-close every time. Direct external air supply (DEAS) capability is standard, all you need is the ducting and external grille.
So, if you want a great looking, state-of-the-art stove for an average sized room, that has all of the benefits that cast iron can bring (a rarity these days) plus a ten year guarantee, then the new Morsø 2840 should definitely be at the very top of your list.
